Speedshow 2013 Deadline for submissions: 27 September 2013, 5pm

In the context of the 2013 edition of the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, FNC Lab and Eastern Bloc, in collaboration with .dpi magazine and Studio XX, invite you to participate in a Speedshow on the theme of built in obsolescence.

A Speedshow is an ephemeral exhibition of web-based art works in an Internet café. The original concept is credited to German artist Aram Bartholl, who suggests guidelines for the presentation context on his website (www.speedshow.net), and as a format for the presentation of online works, is particularly well adapted to this discipline. The selected works, through a curatorial process, are exhibited publicly in an Internet café for a determined period of time. This type of presentation has the potential to create new aesthetic territory, as Internet cafés are increasingly rare given the rise of Wi-Fi networks and smartphones. The Speedshow, since it takes place in a public setting, has the ability to raise important questions, on topics ranging from urban issues to socioeconomic status, as well as how art and culture relate to technology. The format of the Speedshow allows for a new aesthetic territory to emerge out of an endangered public space.

For this edition of the Speedshow, presented in conjunction with the exhibit *~._.:*jEnNiFeR X JeNniFeR*:.~*, ten Net artists address the issue of mediatised hyperactivity and the proliferation of data in the face of an ever-changing virtual landscape.

Please send all the following documents to art@easternbloc.ca (as attachments) for consideration by the selection committee by September 27th, 2013, 5pm:
