Our mission
.dpi was born of the desire to establish a creative, critical and socially active interdisciplinary forum: a place to exchange ideas between female technological researchers, female artists working with new media, and cyberfeminist communities.
.dpi stands for “dots per inch,” but apart from digital resolution terminology, the title, with its pixel imagery, also alludes to sewing and needlepoint. It brings to mind the extent to which traditional women’s work has made up the fundamental ideas and images behind the computer matrix.
.dpi's mandate is to disseminate texts which treat artistic and technological practices of women. By engaging female authors, .dpi creates a space for women in society.
